James concludes his letter by reminding believers that difficult circumstances don’t excuse us from functioning as the church God intended. He outlines four essential functions: praying together during trouble, rejoicing together in times of joy, seeking prayer during sickness, and confiding in one another through confession. The church must also intercede for others and hold each other accountable with love. James uses Elijah as an example, showing that ordinary people can have extraordinary prayer lives when they pray in faith. Prayer becomes powerful when we pray in Jesus’ name, with faith, righteous hearts, and together as the body of Christ.
