“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16
Many people today view faith as something deeply personal—a private relationship between them and God that shouldn’t influence public life. But this perspective misses the heart of what Jesus taught and how the early church lived. Faith isn’t meant to be compartmentalized into Sunday mornings or quiet prayer times. When we truly encounter Christ, He becomes the lens through which we see everything. Every decision, every relationship, every opportunity is filtered through our faith. This doesn’t mean we become preachy or judgmental; it means we become authentic followers of Jesus in every area of life. The early disciples understood this. They didn’t separate their faith from their daily lives—their faith was their daily life. They ate together, shared resources, and proclaimed the gospel boldly, even when it cost them dearly. Their faith was individual in decision but communal in expression. When faith becomes our primary lens, it transforms how we treat our coworkers, how we handle conflict, how we spend our money, and how we love our families. People notice when someone lives differently—when kindness isn’t conditional, when integrity isn’t negotiable, and when love isn’t limited to those who can benefit us. This kind of authentic faith creates natural opportunities to share why we live the way we do. It opens doors for conversations about hope, purpose, and the God who transforms lives.
Reflection
In what specific areas of your life do you need to let your faith become more visible to those around you?
Quote
Faith becomes our primary lens for how we live our life. That it is what we filter. Everything. Every decision, how we filter every action, how we are to live our lives is filtered through our lens of faith.
Prayer
Father, help my faith to be the lens through which I view every aspect of my life. May others see You through how I live, work, and love.
