‘Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.’ – James 5:13

When crisis hits, what’s your immediate reaction? Do you reach for your phone to call a friend, scroll through social media for distraction, or dive into problem-solving mode? While these responses aren’t necessarily wrong, they shouldn’t be our first instinct. Prayer should be our immediate response to both trouble and joy. When we pray first, we’re acknowledging that God is bigger than our problems and worthy of our praise in good times. We’re inviting the Creator of the universe into our situation before we try to handle it ourselves. This doesn’t mean we become passive or avoid taking action. Instead, it means we align our hearts with God’s will and invite His wisdom into our decision-making process. Prayer changes us as much as it changes our circumstances. It reminds us that we’re not alone and that our loving Father cares about every detail of our lives. Whether you’re celebrating a promotion or facing a diagnosis, let prayer be your first response. God is waiting to meet you in that sacred space of conversation.

Reflection
What situation in your life right now needs to be brought to God in prayer before you take any other action?

Quote
Prayer is our first response, not our last resort.

Prayer
Father, help me develop the habit of turning to You first in every situation. Teach me to trust You with both my struggles and my celebrations.
